Project description

TChat is a startup that concentrates on a straightforward task reminder app designed for users with basic technical skills

Impact

Designed for 5000+ users, maximizing impact with limited resources.

My Role

My  work involved continuously enhancing TChat's features based on user feedback. In response to the necessity for transparency and clarity in communications within the app, I conducted comprehensive research into competitor strategies and user insights.

Challenge

70% of Work Hours are spent dealing with Task Reminders

Complexity of project management tools: Many available project management tools are overly complex and not tailored to the needs of SMBs. Their features require extensive training for SMBs to become proficient in their use.

Lack of transparency: Small businesses often use messaging apps like LINE to discuss and track project progress. However, these apps are not purpose-built for project management and lack efficient message tracking capabilities.

Market Research, User Interviews, Test, and Iterate

Finding opportunities through user interviews

74% of users across 30+ occupations struggle to track tasks with existing tools
After conducting surveys and research, it's surprising to find that project management tools are predominantly used for tracking task progress rather than project planning. This highlights an opportunity for us to delve deeper and explore new avenues beyond our MVP.

Comparing other tools, what is our strength?

Current tools offer advanced features but lack simplicity
SaaS platforms like Slack and Trello can be overly complex due to their advanced features. In tests, users quickly grasp the usage of LINE and Todoist, yet these platforms lack the transparency required for effective project status tracking.

Refocusing Key Elements for Effective Task Progress Tracking

Refocusing Key Elements for Effective Task Progress Tracking
Based on user interviews, I aim to improve task progress tracking. The interviews highlighted 3 key elements: transparency, time constraints, and consistency. After brainstorming, I decided to create a Gantt chart and monthly calendar feature to provide a simple tool for visualizing project timelines and tasks.

Quickly gain insights via a low-fi prototype

👨🏻‍🦽 Accessibility: Our goal is to make project management easy for everyone, but we identified that the Gantt chart feature is not currently accessible on mobile devices.

⏰ Agility: While Gantt charts are a valuable tool, some users expressed a need for more agile time scheduling options, particularly when dealing with project dependencies.

🔐 Privacy: Our user testing highlighted the importance of keeping personal projects private and the desire to control updates received on other projects.

Prioritized, learned, and iterated

Designing in ambiguity

I’ve learned to focus on the most pressing issues first minimizing complexity and creating transparency.

Learn from user feedback

I leaned into the research, and iterated design based on the data. I always made sure the design was aligned with the users’ goals.

The iteration has no end date

By carefully testing and improving our solutions, we can achieve meaningful results even with limited resources. It's all about prioritizing wisely to make the most impact.
